When I woke up this morning I could hear the wind howling against the building...then I noticed it was westerly which is good good good for Rutland! However after a couple of milder days around here (the temperature reached 9C yesterday) today is literally lashing it down and below 5C...so rain and cold means still no action for me despite having the new Slalom VI boards here to test.

Anyway did anyone else pluck up the courage to go for a spin?? Maybe further south out of the rain it was a little more appetising??

Unfortunately not.
I went for a walk at dinner time and it looked great. Sunny, dry and blowing a gale.
I had that age old dilema.... if i run back to work now, and tell the boss to stick the job, would the afternoon session be worth the agro ....... after three months of no sailing it was a close call !
It's fingers crossed now for Sunday but that's looking a bit of a washout (and cold) at the moment.
xc-weather is giving the wind as 24mph (nice) but the Met office is showing as 35mph (wooa there!!!!!)
Keep smiling....one day......one day

Footnote:
I went for a sail on Sunday and i can honestly say it was the best sail of the year !
I was well powered on a 6.9 and in the end i guess it was somewhere between the Met office and XC weather forecasts. (20-25ish)
A surpprising number of people had turned out and good fun seemed to be had by all.
Ideal for practising jumps and turns although TOW was restricted by the water temperature ( :o cold)
Big thumbs up for my elite suite as it was exhaustion, not cold, that stopped play.

The forecast for this weekend is just as varied......

MET Five-day forecast: Wellingborough
Date Time Temp Wind Gust Visibility
Sat 6 Mar Day 4 °C ENE 21 mph 32 mph Very Good

XC Weather
Time Wind Dir Temp
12:00 10 mph N 5 C

Nice one Ian :D

Glad you're back on the horse! It was wet here and not very windy - maybe 15kts maximum and with a fair amount of north in the direction so I gave it a miss. The last couple of days have been super in the sunny weather feeling much warmer despite the thermometer saying otherwise - but there's been no wind with it.

The forecast for the weekend is very uncertain as a fair amount is happening - basically an area of low pressure will slip down the north sea and end up beneath the high pressure with the centre falling probably over The Netherlands. That could deliver some great north easterlies (per the Met Office synopsis) but just as likely is a period of cooler duldrums again...let's hope for the former.

Ciao,

Rik

ps. John - Yep I'm with you at the moment but I am uber keen!

Well done to you Ian for being so brave but I still think I will wait a bit before I am tempted. Anyway I have now got a nasty cold so decision made but could be worse as I would sooner get it out the way now rather than say - next month.
